My Husband is an Ironman..Again!

But for super reals, this time;) BIG News in the Willard House – Nick just finished his first FULL Ironman Race, in a place that we love, The Woodlands, Texas.

A full Ironman race consists of a 4km Swim, 180km Bike, and a 42km Run – no big deal, right;);). Nick completed this monstrous race in 13 hours and 58 minutes, and we were allll so proud!!!!

We flew down as a family – dogs and all – one big giant mess at the airport. Hauling way more luggage than we brought to Africa, for an entire month.

It’s been 2 years since Nick declared that he was going to join this race. The last 2 years have given him time to LEARN how to SWIM!!! train a lot and get a half Ironman under his belt. Endless training comes at a cost – to your sleep-in – lazy mornings, your lunch hours, your evening chill time. Eventually, as the race gets closer, your entire weekend.

Perhaps your wife starts getting a little annoyed with the 5 hour a day training schedule and you have to handle this all with caution;). She’s supportive, don’t get me wrong, she’s just tired, in an entirely different way.

The race comes, he’s ready and we just know he’s going to finish. If you ask me what Nick’s superpower is, I can easily say that 2 come to mind:

1) He doesn’t care what other people think – but like, actually. Not in an obnoxious way but in a way, that’s like, why would I let anyone’s opinion affect my life. No one should care that much about what I’m up to.

2). Nick has mental stamina like no other, he can suffer in silence for a lonnnggggg time and get through it!! Some might also describe him as stubborn, perhaps??

These are the reasons we just knew he would finish, no matter what!!! Not caring what other people think is the reason he signed up. So many people said it was a crazy goal, maybe tooooo crazy but he chose not to listen and went for it!!

He crossed the finish line, and we couldn’t contain ourselves!!!! Screaming, Cheering, Jumping and Crying!!! He did it!! We all did it – It was a total family effort. A lesson that’s so important to teach. How to support and show up for the people you love.

I’m happy to report that Nick managed not to puke at the end, no bleeding nipples, no frothing at the mouth and most importantly no ambulance ride…..all of which was happening all around us at the finish line and it was very humbling to see the dangers these types of races carry.

At the end of the day, Nick did it to prove to himself that you can set goals and leave those pesky limiting beliefs behind!!

Great Job Babes!! We are so proud of you!!!!

Enjoy this super cheezzzzy video the kids and I made;);)
